Judging and Awards
Judging at the Regional Science Fair will be carried out by three main groups:
Regional Science Fair / University of Indianapolis
(Administered by the Director of Judging for the Regional Science Fair)
Scientech Club
(An independent, private organization)
Sponsors of Special Awards
(Various private and government organizations)
Overall winners from the Junior and Senior Divisions will advance to the Hoosier Science Fair. The Senior Division overall winners will also qualify to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. (It is for this reason that the Intel forms are required of all of the Senior Division projects.)
The judging process consists of an initial personal interview with every entrant by a University of Indianapolis judge (or team of judges) and a Scientech judge (or team of judges).
There are also a number of special awards presented at the fair, which are judged independently from the University awards and the Scientech awards. Judging for these special awards is done according to the criteria established by each award donor. In many cases, the judging is done by representatives of the donor company or organization.
Note: The judging criteria vary between the different judging groups.
Since each group judges independently, some students may win many awards granted by one organization, and none from another organization. Questions regarding judging criteria should be directed to the appropriate organization.
The Director of Judging for the Regional Science Fair group is Dr. Tim Duman.
